SIDDU
SIDDU IS A TRADITIONAL HIMACHALI DISH, ESPECIALLY POPULAR IN THE UPPER HIMAMLAYAN REGIONS. IT IS A STEAMED WHEAT BREAD STUFFED WITH A VARIETY OA FILLINGS LIKE SPICED DAL ( LAENTILS), DRY FRUITS, OR EVEN VEGETABLES. SIDDU IS TYPICALLY SERVED WITH GHEE (CLARIFIED BUTTER ) AND HOT CHUTENY OR ALONG WITH MUTTON OR DAL FOR A WHOLESOME MEAL.
HOW IS SIDDU MADE ?
DOUGH PREPARATION: A simple wheat flour dough is kneaded and left to ferment for a few hours to enhance its softness.
STUFFINGA: The filling usually consists of crushed lentils (urad or moong dal), walnuts, poppy seeds, and spices.
SHAPING$STEAMING : The dough is stuffed with the prepared mixtures, sealed into half-moon shapes , and steamed until fluffy.
SERVING: Hot Siddu is served with ghee, green chutney, or dal for a rich, earthy flavor.
